Nairobi senator Mike Sonko
failed to appear before a Mombasa court on Tuesday to explain the
whereabouts of MRC leader Omar Mwamnuadzi.
Sonko was summoned after Mwamnuadzi failed to show up during a hearing of his case in Mombasa.
Through his lawyer Jared Magolo, Sonko said he was yet to personally receive the summons issued in early August.

"He thought he was being summoned as a witness but under his directions, I can receive the summons and make sure he receives them," Magolo said.
Sonko stood surety for the MRC leader who is facing a charge of being in possession of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
State counsel Yamii Jamy said they had served the summons to the director of legal service of the senate.
But he said he was not sure if it had been forwarded to the senator himself.

Jamy asked the court to give ample time to the senator's lawyer so as he can serve him with the summons.

The court had granted Mwamnuadzi release on a Sh10 million bond after he had been at Shimo la Tewa Prison for about two months.
The case will be mentioned on September 23 before chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti.
